2018 Ponce - P.F. Pie Franco

95 Points - Luis Gutiérrez (RobertParker.com):

"I tasted the 2018 P.F. next to the 2019. The two vintages were quite different, and it's great to see them side my side. The vinification and élevage are the same, in the last few years shorter, which makes them approachable from early on. This has a lighter color than the 2019, and it's a little more austere and closed, serious and more reductive, not as immediate as the 2019. From this vintage onward, the wine is exclusively in 4,500-liter oak foudres, as they have abandoned the 600-liter oak barrels. This is truly outstanding and, like most of the wines here, a real bargain for the quality it delivers. It has to be one of the finest, if not the finest, vintages for this wine. There are some similarities with La Casilla with extra depth and complexity. 9,000 bottles were filled in August 2019." - Wine Advocate

95+ Points - Luis Gutiérrez (RobertParker.com):

"The objective for the single-vineyard 2018 Pino is to show a more serious and precise profile with aging potential. The soil for the one hectare of 40-year-old vines planted at 800 meters in altitude is rich in limestone, which helps to achieve more freshness. It fermented with 100% full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 600-liter French oak barrels for 11 months. But this is always a more powerful expression of Bobal, with darker color and darker fruit than the more ethereal La Estrecha, with some black olive aromas, more Rhône than Burgundy. There is more concentration too and more tannin. There is more rusticity and more the character people expect from Bobal, because La Estrecha and Ponce are unusually elegant and delicate. This showcases the intensity of Bobal on limestone soils; the word is intense. Surprisingly enough, this is their youngest vineyard and one of the first to be harvested, at around the same time as the grapes for Clos Lojen. 2,000 bottles were filled in August 2019." - Wine Advocate

96 Points - Luis Gutiérrez (RobertParker.com):

"The single-vineyard 2018 La Estrecha comes from a plot on granite soils that was planted mostly with Bobal but also with some 5% other grapes from Manchuela, the way vineyards were traditionally planted in the past. The objective here is to show finesse, and they achieved it through moderate alcohol (12.5%) and good freshness following the usual modus operandi: native fermentation of the full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats and 11 months in 600-liter French barrels. This is always a more elegant expression of Bobal, while, for example, the Pino has more concentration and power. The color is a light ruby, and the nose is an explosion of flowers and aromatic herbs, mixing Mediterranean and continental characteristics, somehow balsamic but also flinty/stony. This is a little more reductive, and the wine might welcome an energetic decanting if you open it soon (this seems to happen more on the wines from granite soils). The palate has great balance, with lots of energy and inner power, linear and long, with almost citrus freshness and a dry, stony/mineral finish. This should develop nicely for a long time in bottle. The great vintages tend to be more austere early on. 2,500 bottles were filled in August 2019." - Wine Advocate
